Privacy as architecture. Offline by design.
What it asks for
Okato asks macOS for permission to capture audio from the app you choose, and for the microphone when you transcribe yourself or a call. You grant each one once. The audio is processed on your Mac and never sent anywhere. It does not need Screen Recording unless you switch on an optional fallback in Settings, which is off to begin with.
No network calls
Okato makes no network requests. Speech recognition, translation and speaker separation all come inside the app and run on your Mac, so it works the same with the internet off.
No accounts
There is nothing to sign up for: no profile, no email address and no password. The app has no idea who you are, and doesn't need to.
No cloud processing
Transcription, translation and speaker separation all happen on your Mac. Nothing you record is uploaded, so a private conversation never ends up on someone else's server.
No telemetry
Okato does not send usage data, crash logs or analytics to anyone, including us.
Your transcripts are yours
Sessions are stored only on your Mac, and you can delete them whenever you like. You can export a transcript as Markdown, plain text, PDF or timed subtitles, or burn subtitles into a new copy of a video to share.
The only exception
The Mac App Store checks your receipt to confirm you bought the app. That check is between your Mac and Apple, and it is the only time Okato deals with anything outside your machine.
